Lift Less Functional Capacity Assessment

A Lift Less Functional Capacity Assessment (LLFCA) is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It is a nuanced and personalized evaluation that transcends the usual Allied Health Assessment and provides deeper insight into the appropriate management of the care recipient. It delivers appropriate recommendations that embrace safety

The solution involves the following elements:

1. Holistic Assessment of Care Recipients:
The specialised LLFCA utilises the O’shea No-Lift System and criteria to determine the capacity of the consumer, their ability to assist and ultimately the level of assistance required to assist them. The assessment considers all of the different transfers and movements that take place during a day, including transfers on the bed as well as off the bed, transfers that involve transferring from sitting-to-standing as well as ambulation. A comprehensive assessment document is provided for each LLFCA completed.

2. Tailored Care Plans:
The insights gained from a LLFCA pave the way for the development of highly individualised care plans. Unlike generic plans, these are crafted to address the specific needs and limitations of the care recipient, promoting a targeted and effective approach to caregiving. The assessment document contains a DEMMI score which becomes an integral part of the careplan and helps create a capacity roadmap which can be updated if capacity changes.

Care Outcomes following a LLFCA:

1. Ensures Safety of both the caregiver & the care recipient:
While the primary focus of caregiving is often on the care recipient, the well-being of the caregiver is equally crucial. Once completed, the Lift Less Functional Capacity Assessment (LLFCA) dictates which transfers & procedures that will be safe & effective for the carer. This “empowers a safe care partnership” between the caregiver and the care recipient.

2. Promoting Long-term Well-being:
A LLFCA not only addresses immediate needs but also looks toward the future. This proactive approach prevents injury, burnout and fatigue, enabling a sustainable caregiving dynamic.
